By UN classification South Africa is a middle-income country with an abundant supply of resources, well-developed financial, legal, communications, energy, and transport sectors, a stock exchangethat ranks among the top twenty in the world, and a modern infrastructure supporting an efficient distribution of goods to major urban centers throughout the entire region. South Africa is ranked 25th in the world in terms of GDP(PPP) as of 2008.

 South Africa is a popular tourist destination; its Chief exports include corn, diamonds, fruits, gold, metals and minerals, sugar, and wool. Machineryand transportation equipment make up more than one-third of the value of the country’s imports. Other imports include chemicals, manufactured goods, and petroleum. It is the eighth largest wine producer in the world, and the eleventh largest producer of sunflower seed.
